Developing a future roadmap

The Challenge

WGC provides housekeeping and facilities management services to hotels.

Sustainability and impact had been at the forefront of their thinking for several years, but disparate activities across the company meant that there wasn’t a cohesive strategy that was widely communicated by the senior leadership team. Understanding where best to invest their time and money became crucial, as the lack of clarity made it difficult to align their teams on a unified vision and slowed their collaborative approach with their partners who were keen to make progress too. 

 

That’s when they decided to undertake our one-day Clarify working session. 

The Approach

In partnership with Keartland & Co, we ran a one-day Clarify working session to scope out a programme of work and create a prioritised high-level roadmap.  

To ensure the day was a success, we started with a kick off call to define success and review their starting point.  

As an input to the working session, members of their Executive Committee completed our Levers for Impactful Change diagnostic. The purpose of this diagnostic is to assess an organisation’s starting point and the degree of leadership team alignment on future ambition. During the working session, we shared the results to prompt a discussion about what might help or hinder delivery of the roadmap. 

 

We facilitated the Clarify working session with the objective of shaping the roadmap and identifying: 

  •  Key phases and milestones; 
  • Workstreams; 
  • Principles for how they would approach implementing the roadmap that will facilitate real, lasting change; and 
  • Where external and internal resource would be required to deliver the roadmap. 


We wrote up the roadmap in WGC’s branding (using their PowerPoint template) so they could use it as a communication tool and share it easily with the wider leadership team and business. 

Results

  • Clarity on their level of ambition for the next 3+ years.  
  • Prioritised plan with guidance on where to invest time and money to deliver the plan, which gave the team clarity on what to focus on and when.  
  • An approach to change that aligns with their culture, enabling them to sustain change for the long-term.  
  • Confidence to implement the plan.

Today we have the perfect roadmap. The session transformed our approach by providing a manageable timeline and clear priorities, enabling me to confidently share the plan with my team. The entire experience has not only simplified our processes but has also instilled a renewed sense of direction and confidence in our ability to drive sustainable, long-term change. 

 

Working with Hannah and Nicky has been eye opening, challenging and extremely rewarding, delivering a key step change in our thinking around sustainability goals and their wider impact on the company, our teams and stakeholders. Specifically for me, the one day Clarify session was the key, it brought together all the great things we are doing, reminded us of the things we still need to do and put everything into a manageable and realistic plan.
